How to Transcribe Facebook & Instagram Reels (Free)

Reels move fast, and the words inside them are easy to miss. Turning a reel into a transcript lets you read it, search it, translate it, and repurpose it — in seconds, without typing a single line yourself.

A transcript is the most reusable asset you can pull from a short video. This guide shows how to transcribe any Facebook or Instagram reel for free, and what to do with the text once you have it.

Why transcribe a reel?

Watching a reel gives you the gist. A transcript gives you the material. Once the audio is text, you can do things video alone never allows:

  • Repurpose it — turn one reel into a blog post, a carousel, captions, or a TikTok script.
  • Translate it — understand foreign-language reels, or localize your own.
  • Quote it accurately — no rewatching and pausing to catch a sentence.
  • Make it accessible — readable, searchable text for everyone.

How to transcribe a reel in 3 steps

You don't need software or an account. The Reels transcript tool runs entirely in the browser.

Step 1 — Copy the reel link

On Facebook or Instagram, open the reel, tap Share, then Copy Link. Shortened Facebook links such as facebook.com/share/r/… work fine, and so do full facebook.com/reel/… and Instagram reel URLs.

Step 2 — Paste it into the transcript tool

Drop the link into the box on the Reels to Transcript page and press Get Transcript. The AI transcribes the spoken audio with Whisper speech recognition — so it works even when the reel has no burned-in captions.

Step 3 — Read, translate or export

In about 15 seconds you get a timestamped transcript. From there you can copy it, download TXT or SRT, or translate it into 50+ languages with bilingual subtitles.

Facebook Reels vs Instagram Reels

Both work the same way — the tool transcribes the audio track, not platform captions, so the source platform doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that the reel is public and has spoken audio. Music-only reels won't produce a transcript because there are no words to transcribe.

Turn the transcript into content

The transcript is a starting point, not the finish line. Two features take it further:

  • Viral Breakdown — analyzes the hook, pacing, and why a reel holds attention.
  • Script Remix — keeps a proven structure and rewrites it around your own topic.

Used together, a single reel becomes research you can act on — not just something you watched once and forgot.
