How to edit a YouTube Short online

  1. Bring one source into the workspace

Start with an accessible public YouTube link or upload a video from your device. The source must be up to 180 seconds and 100 MB, even if you plan to keep only a few seconds.

  2. Build a shorter, readable version

Choose up to eight source sections and arrange their order. Select portrait 9:16, edit or translate captions and insert your own MP3 or timed text.

  3. Review and take the assets with you

Choose a cover frame and title. Optionally generate a description in your chosen language. Review the processed MP4, then download it with the SRT, audio and JPG cover.

Build a complete short-video edit

Choose the moments yourself

Trim an opening pause or join the useful parts of your recording. This is a manual short-video workflow; it does not find highlights or turn an entire podcast into Shorts automatically.

A portrait canvas with predictable framing

Select 9:16 for a 720 by 1280 export. The source fits within the canvas, with black padding when required. Square, landscape and original-ratio options are also available.

Captions, audio and cover in one project

Review subtitle translations, mix a recorded MP3 at the right moment and add a title to a real frame. The cover is a JPG asset; upload and thumbnail options remain controlled by YouTube.

Before you start

The current editor accepts videos up to 180 seconds and 100 MB. Cloud imports, AI processing and exports require sign-in. Portrait video exports use a 720 × 1280 canvas. Only upload material that can be public: the editor uses a public asset bucket.

Frequently asked questions

Can it turn a long video into Shorts automatically?

No. Sources are limited to 3 minutes, and you choose the sections manually. Automatic highlight detection, viral scores and subject tracking are not included.

Is the output vertical by default?

Choose portrait 9:16 in the editor when you want a vertical version. The editor also offers square, landscape and original ratios. Check the processed preview for framing and caption placement.

Does it publish directly to YouTube?

No. Download the files and publish through your own channel. Scheduling and changes to an existing YouTube upload are not included.

What if my Shorts link cannot be imported?

Public access can still be restricted by platform verification. Upload a video file you can access within the 180-second, 100-MB limits. Cloud imports and exports require sign-in.
