0:17I was just a Muslim village boy, and 9-11 had just happened.

1:42Secretly, I was stealing their accent.
1:45And finally, I learned how to say the letter R.
1:49My English became so good I could speak to anyone in the world, including you, right now.
1:59That was the first strategic decision.
2:02The next thing I did was change my friends.
2:09Everyone around me had two best friends, but that did not make sense.
2:14I needed a large social network, not a best friend.
2:19So I made 200 good friends online.

2:29The third decision was to gain skills that no one else had.
2:37I fell in love with astronomy.
2:39I learned everything about the stars and became top six in my country.
2:45I learned to solve the Rubik's cube and I could solve it in less than 30 seconds.
2:53I took up the piano and I could play really complicated songs Slowly but surely I was able to escape the limitations of my village strategically
3:06And the last strategic decision was to leave my village, even though I liked it.
3:14From 5,000 miles away in the Middle East, I sent an application to Harvard in the United States.
3:23And surprisingly, Harvard said yes, come over.
3:29And that was my ticket out.
3:35Because of my English, I made new friends.
3:39Because of new friends, I learned new skills.
3:42Because of new skills, I applied to Harvard.
3:45Because of Harvard, I got a good job.
3:48Because of a job, I saved money.
3:50Because I had money, I started Nas Daily.
3:54Because of Nas Daily, I met the love of my life.
4:08I am lucky. Very lucky.
4:11I believe in luck.
4:13But life is not just about getting lucky.
4:17Sometimes you have to force your own luck
4:20and strategize for 15 years.

4:26Because if you don drink water you don survive Why do you strategize about life Because if you don strategize you literally will not survive When life happens to you that is a bad thing
4:36because life will just make you normal. And you have to fight against that and find a way to
4:43do something different, be something different. For every kid watching this in Nebraska,
4:50Bangalore, Namibia, Nairobi, wherever in the world.
4:55Remember, the odds are stacked against me and against you.
5:03Life is not just a gift we receive.
5:06Life is a gift we have to assemble.
5:10We cannot just live life and get lucky.
5:14We toil, we practice, we strategize, we observe, we network, we put up all the hours.
5:24We do whatever it takes to make life work for us.
5:32Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you.
5:38And you can change it.
5:40You can influence it.
5:41you can build your own things that other people can use.
5:45And the minute that you understand that you can poke life and actually something will,
5:50you know, if you push in, something will pop out the other side, that you can change it,
5:54you can mold it.
5:55Once you learn that, you'll never be the same again.
