0:00Let's make Mamaw Meadows Christmas Eve steak.
0:04I have one cup of flour in this bag.
0:07I have one teaspoon of seasoned salt
0:09and 1 teaspoon of fresh ground black pepper.
0:13I'm melting some bacon grease.
0:15You can use any oil you want.
0:17I'm using bacon grease cause Mamaw did.
0:19And I'm gonna put a little salt and pepper on these cube steaks.
0:23I'm gonna show you the recipe for like 4 to 6.
0:27We're gonna use 8 to 12. So here we go.
0:31I put my steaks in flour, and I just kind of flatten them a little bit
0:36and make sure they're nicely covered.
0:40I'm just Browning them on either side.
0:43I'm gonna have a total of 10 once I got into my packages.
0:47And I'm just gonna put them right in here
0:49when they've been browned on each side.
0:52Once you have your steaks nicely browned on each side,
0:54you're gonna put one family size can of cream of mushroom soup.
0:59You can use any brand you choose.
1:04Store brand or you can use the national brand,
1:06doesn't matter. Get you a can of cream of mushroom
1:10to that. We're gonna do one package of onion soup mix again.
1:14You can make your own, you can do the national brand,
1:17you can do the store brand.
1:20This was so special on Christmas Eve.
1:22And Mamaw didn't use a crock pot.
1:24She would use an electric skillet.
1:25Did y'all used to have an electric skillet on the counter?
1:28For your fried chicken, your pork chops,
1:30your special steaks. Boy,
1:32she did. And then this was her go to.
1:36Swear by everything,
1:38the Kitchen Bouquet. Do y'all still use this?
1:41I don't use it often, but when I do,
1:43I see her face, I see Mamaw Meadows.
1:46And she would put two teaspoons.
1:49It does have flavoring, and it certainly has color.
1:52And it makes it dark. Changes the color for sure.
1:56And she would put a little.
1:59About a half a stick of butter on top and put the lid on.
2:03And she'd come by and she'd stir it every little bit and check on it.
2:08And sometimes, if she had it available,
2:11she put a little cooking Sherry in it.
2:13And she'd say,
2:14don't tell anybody I went in that store where they sell this.
2:19She was so cute. So cute.
2:21I miss her. And we're gonna put a lid on it.
2:24We're gonna let it cook on low for between four and six hours
2:28until it's fork tender. And this is going to be delicious
2:31with some mashed potatoes after a while,
2:34I have to tell you, checking on this crock pot,
2:40smelling the smell of the kitchen bouquet,
2:43the onions, the cream of mushroom soup,
2:46even the flour frying, the bacon grease where I browned it.
2:49That takes me back to my Mamaw's.
2:52Mamaw Meadows. I would help her on Christmas Eve day,
2:56and we would also make cherry delight.
2:58And she let me peel The potatoes
3:00to make mashed potatoes. And she would make a seven layer salad.
3:03And she had a glass trifle bowl that she made it in.
3:08I see. Now those.
3:09None of these were hard recipes.
3:10They're not. But I knew that's what it would be.
3:13Every Christmas.
3:15I knew she would let me help her.
3:17And it's just the magic of food,
3:19don't you think? Food is magically.
3:20Can momentarily transport you back,
3:22just in a moment, to another place and time,
3:25with people that you love.
3:27And gosh,
3:28I'm glad we have this with our senses,
3:31aren't you? It's pretty cool.
3:39Let's check this Swiss steak.
3:41There it is. Yummy.
3:43Beautiful Swiss steak.
3:46We'll put some with mashed potatoes and we'll take a bite.
3:50I just got back from a wedding.
3:52I had my Mamaw's Christmas Eve steak in the Crock Pot.
3:59We gotta try this. It looks beautiful.
4:02The smells of this.
4:04Everything about this takes me right back to grandma's kitchen.
