0:00When you tease an owl,
0:01it may grab your hand with its talons and give you a quick bite.
0:04But don't worry, it's usually just playing.
0:06If you gently pet its head,
0:08it'll close its eyes and enjoy it.
0:10The next time it sees you,
0:11it may follow you around like a kitten,
0:13asking for more pets. And if you do pet an owl,
0:16the direction matters. Its feathers overlap in a particular way,
0:20so gentle strokes following the direction they grow
0:22can help keep them smooth and aligned.
0:25Rubbing against that direction may leave the feathers ruffled
0:28and the owl might not appreciate it.
0:30Heavy rain can leave an owl looking like a completely different animal.
0:34Their feathers provide insulation and some water resistance,
0:37but they aren't completely waterproof,
0:40so prolonged rain can leave them looking soaked and scruffy.
0:43And there are more than 250 recognised owl species around the world,
0:47ranging from tiny owls that can fit in your hand to some truly enormous birds.
0:52This one is an Eurasian eagle owl,
0:54one of the largest owl species in the world.
0:56It can weigh more than 8 pounds,
0:58with a wingspan reaching around 6 feet.
