0:00Music facts that sound fake but are real.
0:02The recording of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours is the only time in history
0:05a band managed to record a multi platinum masterpiece
0:09while actively trying to destroy each other.
0:11Most bands break up after a messy divorce,
0:13but Fleetwood Mac decided to write a 40 minute album about it
0:16while trapped in the same room.
0:18At the time,
0:18every single member was in the middle of a catastrophic breakup
0:21with another person in the room.
0:23Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham were screaming at each other
0:26between takes. Christine and John Mcvie had stopped speaking entirely
0:29after eight years of marriage.
0:30And the drummer, Mick Fleetwood,
0:32had just found out his wife was having an affair with his best friend.
0:35The tension was so thick
0:36that the band members refused to look at each other,
0:38only communicating through songs they were writing as weapons.
0:41When you hear Stevie Nicks sing dreams,
0:43she's literally singing to Lindsay Buckingham
0:45about how he'll regret leaving her.
0:46Then Lindsay forced her to sing backup vocals on Go Your Own Way,
0:50which was his brutal response to telling her to get lost.
0:53essentially using the recording booth as a therapist's office.
0:55But instead of healing,
0:56they were just airing their dirtiest laundry for the world to hear.
0:59Despite the fact that they all hated each other's guts,
1:02the music they produced was so perfect
1:04that it stayed at No. 1 for 31 weeks.
